Scanners

Scanners are Dim Mak Records' genius signing from the UK. This female lead foursome features raucous lead singer Sarah, smokin hot rockstar lead guitarist Amina, and then two boys, who are great too, but these two grrrrrls create the refreshingly female take on what is considered the usually male dominated Alt rock/punk/new wave music genres. Their songs are brooding and beautiful in content and lyrics, yet presented to us in a deliciously sexy and epic electro-indie style. Already, remixers abroad are jumping at the chance to put their spin on Scanners, I personally like their music naked. I came across Scanners in the car driving to a meeting, it was on a CD of a podcast, but you can find it when you click the pic...

Let us take a listen...

Low Life (MP3)- Scanners (Myspace)

Here is the L.A Riots(myspace) remix of the same song...

Low Life L.A Riots remix (mp3)

I love the rap in it, it's pretty sassy, but completely irrelevant to the rest of the track. The remix itself is a bit repetitive, doesn't use enough of the original, and I hate the intro, but I would definitely dance to it. Found this one on the Keep It Fresh Blog.

my mom always told me sharing is caring.

There is new music out there

When it comes to music, I like to share (legally of course). From this day forward, my blog (besides my random acts of Marcy postings) will be all about sharing the best of the new music that I find that day(or week). It may be 1 song, it may be 3...who knows, but it's something brand spanking new to me that I find through a friend, another blog site, or where-ever my ears take me. It may or may not be new to you, but I guarantee it will be worth a listen.

Little tidbit on the method to my music listening madness:

When I find new music on blogs , amazon, all music guide, friends, labels and such, I throw it all into a playlist and onto a mp3 disc and put it on random on my car stereo. I have the playlists saved in my itunes, so that I can take note of all of the song numbers I like while driving on a notepad stuck to my dash, and refer back to the play-list later. I know there is much easier ways to do this, but my aux power for my stereo needs to be reset by Al & Eds Auto Sound so I can regain use of my ipod in my car and just make on-the-go lists...I'm still looking for a brain compartmental filing system for mp3s, but no such luck yet.

Back to sharing...
I'm going to go one step above and beyond to provide you with the details of the song, the band, why I think it's pretty sweet, where I found it, and most importantly, where you can find it. (you really should buy the music) :)

My friend Rich sent me this cover of The Beatles song "Because", Thanks Rich!

Because(MP3) -Dana Fuchs Band/Evan Rachel Wood/Jim Sturgess/Joe Anderson/Martin Luther "M.L." McCoy/T.V. Carpio, The cast of Across the Universe (website)

Across The Universe Album (Amazon)

This version is beautiful, and I'm not usually a huge fan of Beatles covers, except Bowie's version of "Across The Universe" oh, and about 25% of the "I Am Sam OST". This is an amazing adaptation because it keeps the integrity of the song and the Rachel Evan Woods vocals add a glow of etherealness. It's very short at 2:30, the perfect length for an ADD brain wanting an epic piece.

You've probably heard these two before, but not like this...

Sexual High (mp3)- Marvin Gaye vs. Radiohead (Go Home Productions website)

Even though the vocals sound slightly canned here, it's working for me. This is a completely unexpected mash-up of Radiohead's "High and Dry" mixed with Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing". Most mash-ups are pretty out of left field, but usually in a "what the frick is this" sort of way. This one works. Go Home Productions have the mash-up system down, and create good songs out of a couple other good songs. If you're lucky enough, they might still have some of their other mixes for free DL on their site. Go check it out.

peace, see ya later!
